“Hostage.” George said the word quietly, like he was turning it over to look at it.
“The kids don’t need to grow up in a museum.” She gripped the frame at both sides. “It’s not healthy.”
“Don’t use my grandchildren to justify—”
“This is MY HOUSE.” Her voice cracked on the last word. Not out of emotion — out of the particular rage of someone who expected compliance and isn’t getting it. “Your precious Elizabeth is DEAD. She has been dead for five years, and I am done letting her ghost run this household!”
She grabbed the backing of the frame and pulled.
